The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday 10am-2pm, other days by appointment.
Dušica Dražić, in collaboration with the Kenyan artist Deqa Abshir realized the work “The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in collaboration with Somali refugees. The work was produced by the Goethe Institut in Nairobi.
The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat refers to a musical from 1960’s that is still very popular in Kenya. It represents a transreligious story that appears in Bible, Quran and Torah. It is a story about a father who gave to his son, who was leaving their home a coat that would protect him on his journey.
From money, to records, to tapes, these objects are fragile personal reminders of home brought by Somali refugees to Kenya when they fled their home country. This very private and precious items were photographed and then printed on fabric, stitched together into a coat. The coat itself becomes like a tapestry of highly individual pasts, commemorating an international history of forced migration.
The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is dedicated to the Somali emigrant community in Kenya as well to many others who have had to leave their home countries all over the world.
