TOM PORTA
Nato nel 70 a Milano, Tom Porta mostra fin dall’infanzia una forte attitudine verso il disegno e le arti in generale.
Si diploma Maestro d’Arte ed inizia una carriera di successo nell’illustrazione e nella fotografia.
Tom ha vissuto in Italia, Germania, Francia, Giappone e Stati Uniti e, fin dagli albori della carriera, egli ha scelto di fondere le sue esperienze di vita nella propia pittura.
Dal 2003 Tom dipinge full time, abbandonando fotografia e illustrazione, entrando in importanti collezioni così come in aste quali Sotheby’s e Christie’s.
Listato nei top 100 italian artists viene invitato a partecipare ai 500 anni della pittura italiana, una raccolta che parte dal tardo 1500 fino ad oggi.
Il suo lavoro si concentra sulla storia del 900, usando il passato come specchio del presente, come mostra il suo ciclo di maggior successo “Shinpu Tokkotai Project”
basato sui Kamikaze giapponesi.
L’artista è anche affascinato dallo scorrere del tempo, il segno sugli oggetti, la consunzione e lascia sempre l’osservatore al suo viaggio attraverso memorie future.
Il suo lavoro è al contempo una storia raccontata e cibo per il pensiero.
Born in 1970in Milan, Italy, Tom Porta grew up in a middle class family and showed at a very early age, a strong attitude towards drawing and art in general.
He graduated as Maestro D’Arte and begun a successful career in illustration and photography.
Tom lived and worked in Italy, Germany, France, Japan and the United States, and, since the early stage of his career, he chose to pour his life experiences into his art works.
Since 2003, when he decided to paint full time and leave behind photography and illustration, he has become a well known and valued name and is getting more and more attention by important collectors and galleries in the competitive contemporary art scene.
Listed in the 100 top Italian artists in 2007, Tom appears in prestigious catalogues such as “500 years of Italian paintings”, Sotheby’s and Christie’s, as well as solo and group exhibitions’.
His work concentrates on last century’s history, using the past as a mirror for the present as shown in his most successful series “Shinpu Tokkotai Project”, based on Kamikaze pilots in the 40’s. On the other hand, the artist is attracted by the flow of time, represented through objects and places chosen to let the viewer take his own trip into present and future memories.
His work is, at the same time, storytelling and food for thoughts.
